Fred Asare

Fred Asare is the Director of the Village of Hope Children's Home, an orphanage operated by churches of Christ in Ghana, West Africa. He began studying the Scriptures through the World Bible School correspondence course at the age of nine and was baptized into Christ on 16th. June, 1981 by American World Bible School teachers during a follow-up campaign in Ghana.

In 1983, he began to help the World Bible School teachers on their follow-up campaigns as an interpreter from English to Twi - one of the local languages in Ghana. In 1984, he met a World Bible School follow-up teacher called Byron Lee Dial (a Minister to the Deaf and an Elder of the Hanford church of Christ in Hanford, California) who taught him the basics of the sign language. Fred Asare then proceeded to learn the sign language from the deaf adults in Ghana and in 1989 began a ministry to win them for Christ. This led to the establishment of the deaf church of the Nsawam Road church of Christ which now has a total membership of one hundred and ten (110) deaf, twenty (20) hearing sign language interpreters and a few hearing members. Fred Asare preaches for this deaf congregation as well as helps nine (9) other deaf congregations he has established throughout Ghana to reach maturity. He also organizes leadership training seminars for deaf Christians and sign language interpreters in Ghana. He is the president of the Ghana Association of Sign Language Interpreters.

Brother Asare also teaches at the Heritage Christian College, a school that trains gospel preachers for Ghana and the West African sub-region. He teaches Deaf Studies, Sign Language, Hermeneutics and some of the Pauline Epistles (1 Thessalonians through Titus).

Fred is also an evangelist who preaches not only to the deaf but the hearing as well. He preaches on radio at a local FM station in Accra, the capital of Ghana. The program, known as the "Oracles of God Broadcast" is broadcast on Radio Universe on Saturdays from 6:15 am to 7:00 am. The first thirty (30) minutes is used to preach the word of God and the remaining fifteen (15) minutes is used to answer listeners questions through a live phone-in program.

It is in addition to all these responsibilities that he also directs the Village of Hope Children's Home, under the oversight of the Elders of the Vertical Center church of Christ in Tema, Ghana.

Brother Asare is married to Faustina and they have two children : a son, Byron-Lee (aged four years) and a daughter, Samantha (who is two years old).

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Ministry.
